City College Math and Sciences Building & Parking Structure

Encompassing a full city block at the edge of San Diego City College’s campus in the East Village, the project includes a compact, north-facing courtyard abutting the existing steeply sloped C street. The nearly 8 foot change in grade within the courtyard accommodates an upper and lower plaza, connected by a simple sloped walkway threaded through a grove of deciduous trees and a tapestry of massed evergreen shrubs and groundcovers. The project received the 2013 American Public Works Association, Award for Excellence in Design and Construction and the 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Award of Excellence.
