UCSD North Campus Neighborhood Study

Program evaluation, conceptual planning, building-massing studies, architecture and landscape design guidelines for the 20-year development plan to bring one million additional square feet of building program to the North Campus neighborhood. Recognizing the site’s prominence as the highest point on campus, overlooking the historic gliderport and Salk Institute, the plan provides for a landscape wedge connecting this coastal section of the campus to the ocean, and it establishes large, vivid open spaces. The study emphasizes views from these open spaces rather than from private space. The study fosters UCSD’s collegiate image while recommending ways to address future large parking structures and bulky dormitories.
